About Me

Utthita Parsvakonasana in the Yoga on 7th studio.

Yoga Life
I certified as an Iyengar teacher in 2007, and went to Pune, India in 2008 to study with the Iyengar family. Since 2002, I have taught at Yoga on 7th , in Vancouver, a studio I co-direct with Mary Balomenos.
My Five-Minute Yoga Practice is a set of nine audio files with photo guides, available online or at the studio.

Writing Life
I came to yoga teaching after 25 years of writing and broadcasting, mostly for The Vancouver Sun and CBC radio.
I wrote two cookbooks with the Vancouver Sun Test Kitchen, Five-Star Food and Six O’Clock Solutions both available from the Sun Promotions department (604-605-2804). My book of food essays, Eating My Words, was published in 2003.

Debts of Gratitude
My gratitude goes to B.K.S. Iyengar and his daughter Geeta, and to the teachers they taught, beginning with Wende Davis.
Thank you to Wende, Gioia Irwin, Claudia MacDonald and Louie Ettling - your classes are the foundation of my practice and teaching.
Thanks also to Ann Kilbertus, Leslie Hogya, Marlene Miller and Shirley Daventry French at the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Victoria, to Gabriella Giubilaro, who comes from Florence once a year to teach in Vancouver, and to Donald Moyer, who visits us from Berkeley.
And not least, I am grateful to my students, who always teach me.
